Jade and Jessica were lying in bed, spent. Jade was sipping a bottle of water as Jessica laid on her stomach next to her with sweat glistening off her back. “Wow! I guess we were hornier than we thought.”

Jade took a swig of her water. “We haven’t had much time to be intimate for a while. It’s nice to get a little down time. It seems like every time we think we are going to catch a break something comes up at the office, and we’re back on the streets.”

“The story of our lives, my love. I know this is not the time to talk shop but what did you make of the two murdered men?”

“They died a horrific death, one that I can’t even imagine enduring, and the sick fuck who did it is out trolling for his next victim.”

“Well, we know he’s not the Eagle. There was no separate DNA on the bodies.”

“I was surprised by the way that McMann’s wrists slipped through the spikes. Hamilton’s wounds had a hook shape to them, but the kid’s were straight through the wrists. I think that the killer thought his victim was light enough that the spikes would hold the dead weight, but they didn’t.”

“The exit wounds were definitely post mortem, so at least he didn’t feel what would have been an agonizing fall. The fact that his ankles were so steadfast to the wood was interesting. The shards were pine, so the killer uses a softer wood. That makes it easier for him to drive the spikes through the victims and into the wood, and all we can do is feed the information back to John and Jim.”
